For over 100 years teachers and students have been using the progressive exercises contained within to build finger independence, agility and strength as well as flexibility in the wrists. A player's technique is guided through successive exercises that are sequenced to allow the fingers rest from the fatigue caused by the previous exercise. The second section contains exercises for passing the thumb under the fingers, preparatory to the practice of the scales and arpeggios. The third section is an appendix written by A.
